    It’s time to go Back In Time For Winter to experience how 60 years of cold have shaped the way we live. How has it impacted our diets, our fashions, our activities and our lifestyles?

  • 1. 1940s

    The Carlsons travel back in time to the 1940s winter. Wartime food rations push Melanie out of her comfort zone, while husband Dave must prove his handyman skills. Teen daughters get a reality check.

  • 2. 1950s

    Winter in the booming 1950s. Dave tries out an extreme snow-melting tool. Fifties housewife training has Melanie and eldest daughter Lauren feeling the strain of the decade’s expectations of women.

  • 3. 1960s

    The swinging and snowy 1960s! Melanie is faced with weird indoor chores while Dave struggles in a game of sixties-style pick-up hockey. The Carlson daughters play a dating-themed board game.

  • 4. 1970s

    The Carlsons have fast-forwarded to winter in the frigid 1970s. Dave takes on kitchen duty for the very first time while Melanie connects with her wild side. The teens try out funky disco moves.

  • 5. 1980s

    The Carlsons take on the fun and flash of a 1980s’ winter - including one-piece outerwear. The family is surprised and moved when 1988 Calgary Olympics figure-skating champ Liz Manley stops by.

  • 6. 1990s

    The final decade in the experiment: the 1990s. Gender roles shift and Melanie gets some me-time while Dave barbecues in the winter. The daughters experience teenage life as their parents did.

  • 7. Reflections

    Like many Canadians, the Carlsons spend winter indoors with many modern-day distractions. After going back in time, what have they discovered about the work and fun of past winters?
