Canada’s smartest show is back — and it’s gone junior! New season starts November 14!
In the season premiere, host Paul Sun-Hyung Lee (Kim’s Convenience) welcomes twelve remarkable Canadian kids, between 10 and 12 years old, to compete in spectacular intelligence challenges to claim the first ever title of Canada’s Smartest Person Junior. On the first night of competition, a high stakes speed round immediately eliminates one of our Junior competitors. The rest of the field face a demanding team challenge presented by Sabrina Degni, the season one winner of the Great Canadian Baking Show. The top teams are guaranteed a spot in next week’s episode while the bottom teams face off in elimination rounds that ultimately send another hopeful home.
The top ten competitors return to continue their quest to become the first ever Canada’s Smartest Person Junior. After another high-pressure speed round results in the surprise elimination of one of the front runners, the remaining competitors are put to the test in a thrilling logical challenge set on a factory floor. The strongest teams secure their spot in next week’s episode while the remaining are left to fight for one final chance to stay in the hunt for the title.
Our top 8 return for the most action-packed challenges of the competition yet. After an intense speed round leads to the elimination of another hopeful, the remaining competitors take on a ‘super spy’ themed Laser Labyrinth. They must display a perfect blend of physical and logical smarts if they hope to complete their mission the fastest in order to stay in contention for the title. The teams that struggle are left to compete in the elimination rounds resulting in an emotionally powerful goodbye for one of the strongest contenders.
The top 6 competitors continue in an intense competition to secure one of the four spots in the season finale! After facing their last speed round of the season and saying goodbye to another impressive junior competitor, the top five face a demanding test of their linguistic smarts with the return of a Canada’s Smartest Person classic challenge, “Spin a Speech.” After spinning a wheel to select a topic, they have just 45 seconds to improvise a speech to wow guest judge Cynthia Dale from CBC’s Street Legal. The winner advances directly into the season finale while the bottom four are left to face off in the elimination rounds for the final three spots.
This week is the Redemption Episode. Our Junior competitors are back to compete against each other for the last few spots in the season finale. In a ruthless speed round, two are sent home for a final time, leaving the rest to face a test of their social intelligence. This challenge, Human Lie Detector, features a guest appearance by the reigning World Figure Skating Champion, Kaetyln Osmond. The four who survive move on to the elimination rounds that determine whose dream of becoming Canada’s Smartest Person Junior stays alive.
It’s Survival of the Smartest! In the epic season finale, the top 6 Junior competitors battle one last time to be crowned Canada’s Smartest Person Junior! The dramatic episode puts the Junior competitors smarts to the test in ways they never imagined with challenges featuring former CBC News Chief Correspondent, Peter Mansbridge, and world-renowned beat boxer KRNFX. It’s a fight to the finish as the top two hopefuls race through the world’s most intense multiple intelligence obstacle course, The Super Gauntlet, to claim the title.
