During the Autumn of 1942, in occupied France, U-612 is now ready for its maiden voyage, preparing to head into the increasingly brutal warfare with its young crewmen, including the new captain.

During the Autumn of 1942, in the unrelenting deep ocean waters, U-boat Captain Ulrich Wrangel and his men are caught in a battle with a US Frigate. As U-113 takes a hit and begins to free-fall underwater, the reality of U-boat warfare becomes startlingly clear.

Aboard U-612, the men are adjusting to their new lives and settling into their own roles within the crew. Captain Hoffmann orders the young men to run intense drills to ensure they are prepared for all eventualities, much to the disdain of Tennstedt who disagrees with Hoffmann's tiring training tactics.

As U-612 completes the first part of their mission, the crew is reeling from Willy’s tragic death. Despite avoiding battle, they still have a casualty on board and the men are quick to blame their new cargo, foreigner Samuel Greenwood. Hoffmann and Tennstedt’s relationship continues to strain as they disagree about the treatment of the passenger, but the pair are forced to put aside their issues as an enemy ship comes into radar and the practice drills are put to the test. Will they make it out alive?

Following the explosion at La Rochelle, the Mayor is ordered to make some harsh decisions under the watchful eye of Gluck and Forster and a dismayed Duval. With innocent lives on the line, everyone is looking for a chance to change the outcome.

The crew welcomes the departure of Greenwood, but their new guest comes as a surprise. With the reappearance of the forceful Ulrich Wrangel, there is now a second captain on board, which quickly divides the crew. With an unhappy Tennstedt, a power-hungry young crew, and an undermined captain, a battle of loyalty ensues. Will the crew make the right decision?

Trapped below the angry, ominous rumble of a destroyer, the outlook is bleak for the crew of U-612. The inexperienced but eager young men wanted a battle, but they may have taken on more than they bargained for. It’s looking hopeless and the decision to engage in warfare divides the boat once more. Has Wrangel led them into a situation with no way out?

Details of the U-612 losing control and sending for help reaches the shore and Forster has the task of breaking the news to Simone. As they spend more time together and his feelings for her continue to intensify, a startling discovery raises suspicions about Simone’s true involvement in the resistance.

As U-612 prepares to return home, they have the chance to reflect on the events that occurred underwater for the first time. The disloyalty, the doubt and the sacrifices that occurred on their mission must be hidden from the outside world. Returning to shore without their captain must be covered up if they want to escape a court-martial upon their return. But will the fragmented crew be able to agree on a story?
