A down-at-heel musician has to drive across Australia with nothing but a piano, but his baggage soon increases when a runaway girl comes into his life.
Down-at-heel musician Lucky Flynn has to drive his cherished piano from Sydney to Perth, but his plans are thrown into chaos when he has a collision with a teenage girl. He agrees to escort the injured teen to the nearest hospital, but soon comes to realise that won’t be the last he’ll be seeing of her.
Having lost his anxiety pills, Lucky is in a hurry to get to Port Augusta to see a doctor to renew his script. But when Meg claps eyes on a shining pink lake, she insists they stop the car to explore it.
Meg is beside her herself after losing her purse, leaving her and Lucky with no more money, as the highway patrol escalates its manhunt for two highly wanted persons.
Waiting for their ute to be repaired, Meg and Lucky join a campground party on the Great Australian Bight, but the night takes a nasty turn when Lucky discovers a suicide note.
When Lucky wakes to find Meg has taken off with his piano, he’s ready to admit defeat. But after getting bitten by a snake, he has a vision of his mother who urges him to keep going.
Lucky decides to abandon his piano and take responsibility for Meg’s welfare, but news about his mother sends him into a new spiral of despair.
After saying goodbye to Meg in Kalgoorlie, Lucky is arrested for the theft of the horse-float. But his problems only get worse when the horse-float owner decides to take justice into her own hands.
Arriving at the Flynn family home in Perth, Lucky gets a frosty reception from his brother. And Meg finally learns why the piano was so important.
